# 15 GIANNI VERSACE, DECEMBER 2, 1946 - JULY 15, 1997

Italian fashion icon Gianni Versace, born in Reggio di Calabria, Italy. He grew up with his father, mother, two sisters and a brother, one of his sisters died at the age of nine. Versace’s fashion influences came from his mother who had her own dressmaking business, where he later worked for his mother after high school. By 1992 Versace moved to Milan to work as a freelance designer for other fashion labels. By 1978 he launched his own line of ready-to-wear for women. The company included his brother Santos and Donatella, whom worked for Versace. Success followed, becoming one of the fashion industry most iconic and unique designer. Versace’s garments have been worn by some of the most notable royal members and celebrities in the world from princesses to top models. Unfortunately after such a successful and respectful reputation Versace was murdered outside in his own home in Florida, USA. Versace left too soon, leaving behind many loved ones, his siblings, his longtime partner, model and designer Antonio D’Amico and his nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. His sister Donatella took over the Versace business empire. Versace’s legacy and design style is still till date very much influenced in the companies current styles.

It’s been recorded that the Ancient Greeks wore animal hair socks during the 8th Century BC. However, the earliest pair of socks survived is from Egypt, from 300-500 AD. The socks were of Naalbidding and considered split toe socks for sandal wearing.
