# 11 GUCCIO GUCCI, March 26 1881 - January 2, 1953

Italian fashion designer and businessman from Florence, the founder of The House of Gucci, one of the most powerful brands in the history of fashion. Gucci’s biggest influential came from working at the Savoy Hotel in London as a teenager, the very place he observed the glamourous styles of the upperclass guests. That experience is what brought him back to Florence where he began making accessories and travel bags. In 1920 he opened his first shop and in 1921 he founded Gucci the brand and opened his first Gucci store for high quality leather goods, hiring the most talented craftsmen. During 1938 Gucci opened his second store in Rome, his sons joined the business, becoming one powerful family business. By 1951, Gucci had gained such popularity he also opened another store in Milan, two years later Gucci expanded to the international market, including a store in Manhattan, NYC, USA. Not much is known about Guccio Gucci, he was married to Aida Calvelli, they had six children together. Gucci died on January 2, 1953 in West Sussex, England.

The trends for this fall 2014 are about comfort, colors and lot’s of prints and odd materials. The cuts are on the less ordinary side. On the print aspect, I am seeing a lot of florals, polka dots and chevrons. As for the materials I am seeing tons of knitwear and tweets. Overall all the looks seem to be more on the vintage, schoolgirl side, baggy and oversized clothing, tons of layering and lofty capes. The colors for fall are less bright than we experienced this summer, more on the calm and darker side. But once you combine them together, the contrast will be amazing, fun and very soft. Have fun mix and matching, you will have plenty of options this fall!
