GISELLE TRUJILLO’S  FASHION GUIDE

Ever wonder what to buy, when, how, where and why?  Editor-in-Chief Giselle Trujillo’s has compiled a complimentary Fashion Guide just for you.

A NOTE FROM EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, GISELLE TRUJILLO

I’ve been called eccentric and weird, and maybe I am, and I really don’t care.   But here is what I can tell you about me, I am frugal, will invest in high quality goods, enjoy the fashion world and an openly and proud clearance shopper.  I consider myself an intelligent consumer.  With that said, you don’t have to be a millionaire to enjoy unique and beautiful things.  Here is the other side of the coin, if you work hard and appreciate paying for goods at retail prices, there is nothing wrong with that either.  Regarding accessories, don’t be fooled, I’ve come across many wealthy people that buy jewelry second hand, jewelry to die for, Bling BLING!  A good portion of my accessories collection has been purchased in Estate Sales, Flea Markets, Antique Shops, Thriftt Shops, Vintage Shops and Garage Sales.  One accessory I don’t mind splurging on are my shoes and certain handbags, I am really into footwear, I love shoes.  My guide is for all consumers from A to Z and here to shed some light on essentials pieces consumer must learn about, a straight to the point style guide.   Keep in mind that quality goods are well recognized by their craftsmanship and materials, that accessories complete the outfit and that fashion is about feeling good which reflects in looking fabulous!

Welcome to our shoe world!

High heel shoes are not a modern inventions, Ancient Egyptians have been depicted with high heel shoes in their murals.  However, the earliest men and women wearing elevated shoes has come from ancient Persian riders.

While others state that the first heels were worn by Catherine de’ Medici in 1533, which were made in Florence, Italy for her wedding to Duke of Orleans, a reference that may not be 100% accurate.  Because high heeled shoes began development in the 1580’s.

Leather vs. PU
Leather is a natural material that comes from animals, mostly cows, created by tanning an animals rawhide and skin. Leather shoes coming from China, are usually pig skin leathers. Thus, leather is not animal friendly, leather has been in use for thousands of years and it’s used for many purposes, bookbinding, shoes, boots, instruments, decorations, garments, handbags, jewelry, furniture and much more. Because leather comes from animals, the rest of the animal usually does not go to waste, every part of that animal is consumed, from it’s meat to bone crushing for medicinal uses to even the blood may go to use. The truth is that many slaughter houses are ruthless and it’s up to the leather buyer to investigate the conditions in which these animals are being treated, but many animals in many countries are treated with respect. Leather starts to decompose within 50 years but if well preserved can last for a as long as you treat it, leather must never be washed. Light does affect leather with discoloration. Leather has pores, therefore it’s breathable, it’s expensive due to it’s natural, complex process and requires maintenance.

Polyurethane (PU) is a synthetic man-made material made to look, feel like leather and easy to maintain. For those who don’t know how to distinguish PU, you will be fooled, because PU is being perfected and passed as leather. PU is cheap material that decomposes in 500 years, making it, a not so planet friendly material. Thus, a man-made material, just like leathers, PU also has it’s downs, they treat their workers horrible just to keep the factory running and meeting production and delivery terms. The footwear industry has taken a huge advantage of this material, not so much because they are concerned for animals, but more so for it’s abundance availability in mostly China. China has impacted the footwear industry immensely. So many companies will go where their money stretches the most. Cheap materials, cheap labor with great styles, equates very high profits, and i’m talking about over 100% return on their investment for the fashion house and retailers.

I’ve been in the footwear industry for over 15 years and being behind the scenes working directly with manufacturers, you see a whole different monster. The difficulties from horrible conditions in factories to poor quality shoes passing inspections, to going on consumers feet. That is why i’ve become more conscious and concentrate on quality goods. One day i will share my behind the fashion industry experience.

As you can see both materials have it’s pro’s and con’s. It’s always up to the consumer to make their final purchase decision.

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN

Parisian, French footwear designer, known for his signature red soles. Louboutin was expelled from school and was a high school drop out.  He formaly trained at the Académie d'Art Roederer.  Louboutin once said "I wanted to create something that broke rules and made women feel confident and empowered."

Louboutin was employed by Charles Jourdan, where he met Roger Vivier, later becoming his apprentice.  He served as a women shoes freelancer for Chanel, Maud Frizon and Yves Saint Laurent.  During the late 1980’s Louboutin left the industry to become a landscape gardener and to also contribute to Vogue.  He realized he missed the working with shoes and to pursued his own company in 1991.  Louboutin opened his first store in Paris that year and his first customer was Princess Caroline of Monaco, which lead journalist to mention his shoes.   The princess comments boosted sales which gained him popularity amongst the elite and famous.  Loubotin is remains a privately held company.  The prestigious luxury brand was the most searched shoe brand in online in 2011.  Louboutin delivers exceptional designs and high quality shoes.  A pair of custom made Louboutin shoes for his private clients start at $6,000.00 and manufactured in France, outside of that, Louboutin shoes are manufactured in his factory in Italy.

Below are my personal favorite styles.  Visit his website for more great styles.

Louboutin shoes are about luxurious women shoes can be, the craftsmanship is flawless and most of the styles are timeless.
