Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruíz y Picasso aka Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain.   He was baptized and was given names after some relatives and saints.  Picasso’s father Don Jose came from a wealthy family and his mother Dona Maria was of Arabic descent.  He had three siblings, one baby who died and his sister who died at the age of seven in 1895, a traumatizing event for Picasso.  Don Jose was an art teacher and Picasso’s biggest supporter by teaching and enforcing Picasso’s talents, Don Jose and his brother invested highly in getting Pablo Picassos’s work recognized.  .  Picasso was more than just a painter, Picasso was born to paint, according to his mother, Picasso’s very first word was “piz” in reality, Picasso was trying to say “lapiz”, meaning pencil in english.  Picasso was a revolutionary artist, whom worked with many different materials, he was also a sculptor, set designer, ceramicist, playwright and a poet . Picasso revealed a strong artistic talent since a very young age. Thus, Picasso was born in Spain, he live most in France throughout his adulthood.    At nine years of age is when Picasso realized his first painting, he name Le picador. At the age of thirteen Picasso attendee Fine Arts in Barcelona, Spain and at sixteen years old his father and uncle sent him to Madrid’s Royal Academy of San Fernando, Spain’s top art school.  Picasso stopped attending classes after disliking the class instruction  Instead, he would go to The Prado museum to see paintings by famous Spanish painters.   Picasso’s art training was before 1890.

By 1990 Picasso decided to leave Spain and traveled to Paris, that is where he met Max Jacob, a journalist and poet who would become friends and also helped Picasso speak French.   Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque invented cubism, which is a form of painting that revealing simple geometric shapes.   Picasso’s went through a phase when he usually painted in blue and green shade, that was the Blue period from 1901 - 1904.  From 1904 - 1906 was his Rose period.  During Picassos’s rose period he met bohemian artist Fernande Olivier, who was his mistress in 1904, Paris.  Olivier appears in many of his paintings during the Rose period.

After receiving some fame and fortune, Picasso left his lover Fernande Olivier for Marcelle Humbert, whom he called Eva Gouel. Picasso artistically declared his love for Eva in many of his Cubist works.  Eva died prematurely from an illness at the age of 30 in 1915, another devastating event for Picasso. Afterwards he had an affair with Gaby Lespinasse.   During the summer of 1918, Picasso married a professional ballerina Olga Knonklova who was part of the Sergei Diaghilev's troupe, for whom Picasso was designing a ballet for Erik Satie's Parade, in Rome.  Olga and Picasso spent their honeymoon in the villa of Eugenia Errazuriz, a glamorous Chilean art patron.  After their honeymoon, Picasso was in desperate need of money and he formed a great friendship with French-Jewish art dealer Paul Rosenberg, whom they agreed that Paul would be responsible for Picasso’s rental apartment.  Olga introduced Picasso to the wealthy lifestyle, the high society, he tok him to formal dinner parties, and all the social niceties attendant to the life of the rich in 1920s Paris, France.  They had son Paulo, who grew up to be a dissolute motorcycle racer and chauffeur to Picasso.  Olga’s opulent lifestyle comparing to Picasso’s Bohemian tendencies, became problem for the marriage with constant conflicts.   During 1927 Picasso began a secret affair with a 17-year-old girl by the name of Marie-Thérèse Walter.  Soon after Picasso and Olga separate, he did not want to divorce Olga because French Law would have required given her half of his properties and Picasso did not want Olga to have half his wealth. The two remained legally married until Olga’s death in 1955.  Picasso had a long affair with Marie-Thérèse Walter fathering a daughter with her, they named her Maya.  Marie-Thérèse had high hopes that Picasso would one day marry her, but he never did and she hanged herself four years after Picasso's death.  Picasso had several mistresses in addition to his wife or primary partners, It has been said that Pablo Picasso had a weakness for women.

During the 1920s a large amount of Picasso’s works concentrated on monumental style nudes. Picasso’s work portrayed more of an interpretation, and not exactly work that represented anything that was going at that time.  After the 1937 Guernica bombing, Picasso produced a piece he titled Guernica, in efforts to showcase his support towards ending war.  He produce many pieces after the Guernica, the profits from that "war" piece, were given to support the Republican movement during the 1930s. The Guernica painting remains as a highly powerful political picture in modern art.  Two styles of artwork that Picasso concentrated on where fantasy and comical.  Picasso also produced graphic arts, ceramics, and sculpture work, which is what he enjoyed the most.   He also produced illustrations, thousands of stage designs and a series of drawings, which represented certain themes, and distinct styles.  AT 63 years old in 1944, Picasso began romantic relationship with Francoise Gilot, a young  art student 40 years younger than he was.  He grew tired of his mistress Dora Maar, and began living together with Gilot, they had two children, Claude and Paloma. Gilot wrote a book “Life with Picasso, describing Picasso’s infidelities and abusive treatments, the reason she took her children and left Picasso.  Picasso was not happy about all that.  Picasso had affairs with women younger than Gilot’s.  Picasso began another affair with Jaqueline Roque, a girl he knew from the place Picasso made and painted ceramics, the Madoura Pottery, she was his lover and later on his second wife in 1961 till his death.  It is said that Picasso married Roque in revenge against Gilot encouraging, Gilot to divorced her then husband, Luc Simon and marry Picasso to secure the rights of her children as Picasso's legitimate heirs. However,Picasso had secretly married Roque, after Gilot had filed for her divorce. This put a negative spin on his relationships with his children Claude and Paloma.

In the 1960’s Picasso was commissioned to produce a 50-ft high public structure in Chicago.  What Picasso created is still unknown with speculations of many figures.   In 1967 the sculpture was unveiled and Picasso refused to accept the $100,000 payment for his work, instead Picasso donated the sculpture tot he people of the city.   The sculpture is a downtown Chicago landmark.   Unfortunately, Pablo Picasso died at the age of 91 on April 8th, 1973, while having dinner with his wife Jaquieline and friends at his house, his last words were ““Drink to me, drink to my health, you know I can’t drink any more.”  The cause of his death is said to have been a heart attack.  He died in his home in Mougins, France. Jaqueline did not allow Picasso’s children Claude and Paloma to attend the funeral.  In 1986, at 59 years old, Jaqueline committed suicide by shooting herself with a gun, due to loneliness and devastation after Picasso’s death.   He was married to both, Olga Khokhlova and Jacqueline Roque.   Picasso had a total of four children by three different women: Paulo, Maya, Claude and Paloma (famous jewelry designer). Pablo Picasso is referred to as a magician by many who study and appreciate his works.  He had a way of transforming a scene and taking you to that moment.  Even today, Pablo Picasso’s work is admired by millions around the world.   Picassos’ work is some of the most collectible, It is estimated that Picasso produced at least 50,000 works of art: 1,885 paintings; 1,228 sculptures; 2,880 ceramics, roughly 12,000 drawings, many thousands of prints, and numerous tapestries and rugs. He also wrote plays and poetry.  Picasso is one of the most successful artists today, a painter and artist with many other artistic talents, he was very popular, he was very famous and wealthy.
