ONE OF HISTORY GREATEST FRENCH PAINTER
OSCAR-CLAUDE MONET
NOVEMBER 14, 1840 - DECEMBER 5, 1926
ART
Known as Monet, born and baptized as Oscar-Claude Monet, impressionist painter from Paris, France. Monet’s artwork is known for his breathtaking natural realistic yet distorted paintings, as if looking through a thick wet glass. Monet was the youngest of two children, grew up in a Catholic household, but became a atheist. His father was grocery store businessman, a business he wanted Monet to continue and his mother was a singer. Monet chose to be an artist, who later on trained professionally. His mother died when he was only sixteen years old, that’s when he stopped attending school to go live with his aunt, who did not have children and was also a widow. While studying in Paris, Monet witnessed a trend of painters simply copying the artwork of other master painters and Monet decided he wanted to take a different approach and paint what he saw instead. The Monet style of impressionist painting is what gained him a great reputation.
Monet met model Camille Doncieux, who appears in Most of Monet’s paintings, whom became pregnant by Monet with their first child Jean in 1867. Monet and Camille married December of 1871, living a life of poverty for some time, until Monet won a silver medal at the Le Havre. 1873 Monet purchased a small boat that he used as a floating studio on the Seine River near Paris. Monet and Camille had a second son in 1878, even though Camille had been suffering from tuberculosis. They moved into a shared family house, owned by Ernest Hoschede, who was a wealthy owner of department stores and an art patron. September 5, 1879 at the young age of thirty-two, Camille died from uterine cancer. After difficult moments after Camille’s death, Monet began to change his painting style and created some of the best paintings. Ernst’s, Monet’s friend’s wife Alice helped Monet with his two sons, taking them with here to stay in Paris with her six other children. Ernest, left to Belgium after being bankrupt. One of Monet’s sons married one of Alice’s daughters. In 1880 Alice took a the children and moved in with Monet. They all moved a couple of times, the last move to Giverny, where rented and planted a beautiful garden and a place that inspired many of his paintings. Monet married Alice in 1892 after Ernest’s death. By 1890 Monet began working with a dealer who sold his paintings and made Monet fortunes, and Monet was able to buy that home and build additional space during this year, later on buying additional land. Alice died in 1911 and his oldest son died in in 1914. During that same time Monet developed Cataracts, which he had surgery for. This might have been why Monet’s paintings had specific colors and clarity.
Monet dies at the age of 86 in Giverny, France on December 5,1926, he died of lung cancer. Monet was one of the most influential painters of his time, his work is some of the most uniquely recognized with his own signature style and beautiful depiction of nature, the flowers, the gardens, the romantic scenes, paintings that demand concentration and imagination. Monet is one of the greatest painters in history.

Knowledge is Power
Hi All!
Just to share a little about me, my name is Victoria and am a mommy-to-be alongside my wonderful husband, Michael. I am 8 and 1/2 months pregnant and I’m so excited to share my knowledge with you. First, as a pregnant lady, it is very important to educate oneself on what’s to come:
1.“How will I prepare myself to start a family?” (or prepare for another little addition) - Baby steps. Ha, get it? You may be freaking out, and/or excited. But it all takes time and little strides to get with the program. Financially, mentally... Everything will change. If you have parents or family that can help, take it. Even friends. You’re not in this alone. Even if you are, there are people who can help you at a clinic or even your doctor. Take all the help you can get! People will overwhelm you too, so be prepared. Like “Oh my gosh, the baby shower” and “you’re going to find out the sex, right?” and the list goes on... Um, I just found out I was pregnant soooo...
Just take it all in.
There is no right or wrong way to do things. Again, it’s a change that nothing nobody couldn’t handle before. It’s
up to your planning and execution...which actually leads me to my next bullet...
2.“What is my mental state of mind?” - Are you excited, happy, sad, nervous, etc.? All of which are important to address because your state of mind will affect you, your significant other(SO), your pregnancy and most importantly - your baby. And fellas, this is not just for women. Even if loved ones and strangers gravitate their attention towards the mommy, you are as much as important in the relationship as she is - so your feelings are important too! It may be that you weren’t planning to have this precious bundle of joy and you don’t know how to take the news...or you simply aren’t ready... Always talk to someone you trust because getting help is ALWAYS better than none. Life is a happy thing and creating one should be even more happier, as planned or unplanned as it is!
3.“Why do I need to educate myself? I’ve seen the movies!!!” -When Michael and I became pregnant, we were very fortunate because my brother and sister-in-law had just had a baby! They schooled us on what we should know, such as choose an OB that you are absolutely happy with and research, research, research. I literally wrote down a list of things that I have never known about such as chest to chest immediately after birth, delayed chord clamping, episiotomy, different between pacifier and bottles. The goal was to school us on doing everything as natural as possible. We knew as far as that (of course no epidural or pain meds), but we were guided in the right direction to learn more. Then they recommended this book to me that was the cream of all creams.
You nature-heads probably already know where I’m going with this...Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth:
So I’m going to pay it forward and recommend this as well. You can get it from Barnes and Noble right now for $12.91. Or get it from anywhere on the internet. It’s an inexpensive read that is well worth the money. This read simply opened my mind to what childbirth should be like - no, not what it’s portrayed like in the movies or how modern medicine has flipped it. Don’t get me wrong, God bless doctors who are trained to perform miracles on you if something does happen to go wrong. However, for those women and couples who are fortunate to experience childbirth in its prime form, go for it! It’s all about learning your options, people. Without options, we can’t make our own choices and without us making choices, we don’t have a voice. Which is why we fall victim to letting others decide for us. But I’m digressing. Back to pregnancy. If you are pregnant, if your SO is pregnant, learn as much as you can about natural childbirth. With the power of Youtube, you can watch videos. Also check out the awesome documentary, “The Business of Being Born” (2008). You can even find it on YT for free ;-):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvljyvU_ZGE
When I went to the doctor at 28 weeks, they had yet to discuss with me the process of birthing. It was until Michael questioned her that we discovered we would be given pitocin post-delivery. When we expressed we didn’t want it, they said that it’s protocol. She just didn’t like the way he kept questioning her. (By the way, intervention is when doctors intervene with giving birth i.e., giving pitocin to induce labor, epidural, breaking water. There are many. But intervention leads a to higher chance of needing a cesarean as opposed to no intervention.) Either way, by that time we decided we knew those doctors weren’t for us because they didn’t accommodate to our birth plan. So we switched. Oh and this is a great one. When I told the make doctor that I wanted no epidural is said, “You will not get an award for denying pain medication.” So I knew I wasn’t going to get the support right there. But let me be clear. There are many great doctors that do believe in supporting you and are there for you. Unfortunately, we didn’t get great doctors for us. So always shop around for the right doctor/s for you. You will be so much happier. And comfortable. And that’s what’s most important.
4. “Will I be a great parent?!?!?!”
If you love your child or children unconditionally and want the best for them then my answer is - you’ll be fine. I can’t tell you if you will be a good parent or not. It’s up to YOU. Plan to be their protector and guardians. They are your responsibility for the rest of your lives. However you care for them will leak into their personality and absorb into their brains. They are products of your actions and words (well, along with their own DNA). You are their future. LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Knowledge IS Power. Knowledge is your weapon. and you always want ammo. Although, most likely, you will come across doctors who do not like to be questioned...because, of course - they went to school for this...you will have to be confident and know that you have a voice and a choice. Research everything. The internet is at your fingers. So remember, you are the client, they are there to help you!! And this doesn’t go just for pregnancy. This extends out to all medical instances. Nowadays, people are coming out with more and more information that teaches one how to alternatively take medicines. I mean, it just makes sense that the pharmaceutical companies want to make money off of your illness or disease. But okay, I digress a lot. That is for another article! So - whenever you or your spouse get pregnant, just know that this can be the beginning of a wonderful experience. So you want to make sure that the doctors you have, you are comfortable with. And if not, find another one. One that supports your beliefs. Although this is my first pregnancy, I’m learning every day. And whatever I learn - I will take it with me for the future.
