# 9 HUBERT DE GIVENCHY, February 21, 1927
French aristocrat, fashion designer and founder of The House of Givenchy, born as Count Hubert James Marcel Taffin de Givenchy in Beauvais, France, at 6ft 6in tall. His father was Lucien Taffin de Givenchy, the marquis of Givenchy and his mother was Beatrice “Sissi” Badin of an artistic family who also owned tapestry factories. Givenchy and his brother inherit the family’s marquessate and were raised by their mother and maternal grandmother after their father’s death. One of Givenchy’s great-great-grandmother was a set designer for the Paris Opera and his maternal grandfather was also a set designer with many of his designs for the Elysee Palace. As professional training, Givenchy studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris. In 1945 Givenchy’s first designs were for legendary fashion designer Jaques Fath, who was a personal friend of the Givenchy family. In 1946 Givenchy was designed for Lucien Lelong and Robert Piquet, and from 1947 to 1951 Givenchy worked for Elsa Shciaparelli. By 1952 in Paris, Givenchy opened his own design house. Givenchy was recognized as the youngest progressive fashion designer of Paris fashion at the age of 25. Givenchy dressed Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis and Grace Kelly to name a few. Givenchy developed his first perfume collection in 1953 and launched a men’s line in the year after. Givenchy sold the brand to LVMH, today. Givenchy retired from fashion designing in 1995 and resides in France. His life is kept very private with assumptions that he is married. Givenchy is one of the greatest fashion designer of our times with a reputable brand that still offers, clothing, fragrances, cosmetics and accessories. Long live the Givenchy fashion legacy.

Hats have been around for thousands of years going back to ancient times. In the Thebes tombs, Egypt, paintings depicted a man wearing a straw hat and in Greece, a Phrygian cap was also depicted, known to be the first hat with a brim.

The trends for this fall 2014 are about comfort, colors and lot’s of prints and odd materials. The cuts are on the less ordinary side. On the print aspect, I am seeing a lot of florals, polka dots and chevrons. As for the materials I am seeing tons of knitwear and tweets. Overall all the looks seem to be more on the vintage, schoolgirl side, baggy and oversized clothing, tons of layering and lofty capes. The colors for fall are less bright than we experienced this summer, more on the calm and darker side. But once you combine them together, the contrast will be amazing, fun and very soft. Have fun mix and matching, you will have plenty of options this fall!
